In short: practice in the app is free. A course unlock is a one-off purchase through Google Play that opens that course's exam papers. It stays yours for as long as we offer the app, even if the price later goes up. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected by anything here.
1. Who we are
Shimsy Maths is made by Shimsy Maths Ltd, registered in England and Wales (company number 17467830), registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. Contact us at support@shimsymaths.com.
These terms apply when you use the Shimsy Maths app. When you buy through Google Play, Google's own terms of service also apply to the payment.
2. What's free and what you can buy
Every practice worksheet in the app is free, along with its hints, solutions and tools.
A course unlock opens the exam material for one course. That means its exam-style papers for each topic, its topic exams and its full mock papers, or, for Maths Challenge, the mock challenges for that level. The courses are:
- KS3;
- GCSE, Foundation and Higher;
- AS and A level Maths;
- AS and A level Further Maths;
- Maths Challenge Junior;
- Maths Challenge Intermediate;
- Maths Challenge Senior.
The app always shows which course a paper belongs to, and what an unlock includes before you buy.
3. Prices and launch offers
The price is the one Google Play shows when you buy, including VAT. It's a single payment, not a subscription.
Sometimes a course has a launch price. The app shows it next to the full price, along with the date it ends, and on that date the price goes up to the full price shown. If you bought at a lower price, you keep your unlock and never pay the difference.
4. Your unlock
- Your unlock is linked to the Google account you bought with. You can restore it on any Android device signed in to that account, from Settings in the app.
- It lasts for as long as we make Shimsy Maths available on Google Play. If we ever decide to stop offering the app, we'll give reasonable notice in the app and on this website.
- We keep improving the papers and fixing mistakes. We may add new papers to a course, but we don't promise to.
5. Cancelling and refunds
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you'd normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content. A course unlock is supplied the moment you buy. By buying, you ask us to supply it straight away, and you accept that the 14-day right to cancel ends once the papers are unlocked.
You can ask Google Play for a refund within 48 hours of buying, straight from Google Play. After that, email us with your Google Play order number (it starts with GPA.) and we'll look at every request fairly.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it isn't, you're entitled to have it put right, and in some cases to a full or partial refund. Nothing in these terms takes away those rights.
6. Using the content
You may use the app and its content for your own learning, and a parent or tutor may use it alongside a learner. Please don't copy, share, sell or republish the questions, papers or solutions. If you'd like to use Shimsy Maths with a class, email us.
7. Accuracy and the grade estimate
Every question is checked carefully, but mistakes can slip through. If you think an answer is wrong, please tell us and we'll fix it.
On GCSE and A level mocks and topic exams, the app shows a grade estimate. It compares your score on our own papers with averages of recent grade boundaries. It's a guide to where you stand, not an official or predicted grade. Real grade boundaries are set by the exam boards each year and depend on their papers.
8. Not affiliated with exam boards
Shimsy Maths is independent. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, the UK Mathematics Trust or the Department for Education. We name them only to describe what the content covers. All papers in the app are exam-style papers written by Shimsy Maths. They are not past papers.
9. Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses: the app is for personal use. If content we supplied damages a device or other digital content of yours because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll repair the damage or pay you fair compensation.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
10. Younger users
If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before buying anything. Google Play's parental controls can require approval for purchases.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the law changes or we add a feature. Changes won't take away anything you've already bought. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you have a problem, please email us first, as most things can be sorted out quickly.
